AFRO- CONTEMPORARY | MODERN DANCE | MASTER CLASS
Afro Contemporary | Modern Dance Course, will focus on the mixing of Contemporary Modern Dance Technique with some Afro Cuban Dance elements, in this first course will be using two mains Gods ‘Orishas’ from the Afro Yoruba and Cuban Culture, CHANGO and OYA, we are going to learn how we can mix these two Orishas in a contemporary modern way,

For dancers with contemporary technique, ballet technique, people that are interested in the Cuban and Afro Yoruba Culture who would like the contemporary a view, or a dancer that wants to development their knowledge about contemporary dance and modern dance
MODERN DANCE
We will be working on the modern Cuban technique focusing mainly on body movement, undulations, off-weight work, expression and fluidity- going through the three phases of work, barre work, Center, Floor and Jumps.
AFRO CONTEMPORARY-
We will learn how to use the steps, expressions, interpretations, elements and movements of each of these two Orishas, Chango and Oya - CHANGO king of fire, lightning and dance, Oya goddess of the cemetery, goddess of the lightning spark and storms. With these two Orishas we will combine contemporary and modern movements.
WEEK 1-
Week one will be based on the work in the Ballet Barre, contemporary barre work, we will learn how to use the change of weight and balance, how to use our hands and legs correctly the importance of breathing and head movements
WEEK 2 -
In week two we will be working in the center, we will learn movements of undulations, Socolo, Meers among others, we will do simple exercises of suspension and falls to the floor
WEEK 3
In week 3 we will work on the Orisha Oya, learn her main colors, how to represent her natural elements in contemporary dance, adding its steps and movements from traditional dances, mixing all this with steps and movements learned in week 2.
WEEK 4
In week 4 we will learn to characterise the Orisha Chango, its main colors and how to represent its element in contemporary dance by adding its traditional steps and interpretation in a modern contemporary way mixing it with the steps and techniques learned in week 2
WEEK 5
we will are going to learn to do a little floor work and simple jumps that will help us to develop the mixture of these two styles to strengthen the technique and have more resources, including a small combo with the Afro inside
WEEK 6
Week 6 and we finalised doing a small choreographed combo with everything we have learned in the previous weeks, ending the course with a small social and party where everyone can bring food drinks and listen to a bit of contemporary Afro music
This party will be open to anyone interested.
